The most striking character of the Khmer ruins as compared to the
older Wats of Northern Thailand is the pictorial depiction of the
religion. The Khmer were Hindu and there temples are riddled with
reliefs depicting mythical stories. With a little imagination and
(help from plaques) one can "read" the stories by walking around the
buildings.
